Catch Jack Black as overly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn, who gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Aspen Film’s legacy festival, Filmfest, is back at The Crystal in Carbondale! Join us for two festival encore screenings on Sunday, October 4th at 4:00pm and 7:00pm. These films will make you laugh, maybe cry, and ultimately leave you with a cinematic experience that showcases the power of film to uplift us by bringing us together around great storytelling on the big screen.

Jérémy (Raphaël Quenard), a video store clerk, and Bouna (Jean-Pascal Zadi), an airport cleaner, meet on a pickup basketball court in Amiens, France, and form a strong bond. Rabid basketball lovers, the men discover they share a dream: to become player agents in the NBA. Without connections, money, or even a command of English, their ambitions take them on a winding journey filled with setbacks, stumbles, and (often humorous) culture clashes. Based on a true story, the tale of these two singular men and how they achieved their goal makes for one of the year’s feel-good sports movies.

When the original creators of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ electrified (and shocked) audiences, would any of them have imagined that 50 years later a live shadow-production of their film would lead the fight for queer visibility in tiny Rock Springs, Wyoming? Probably not. Spearheaded by a remarkable young man named Kenny Starling and a cast of local first-time performers, TIME WARP takes us along through rehearsals, personal dramas, and even a terse city council meeting where the full diversity of the town’s cultural values are aired, threatening to shut the production down. Optimistic and uplifting, TIME WARP never veers away from difficulty, but ultimately celebrates all the good a small community can contain and what that can teach us all.
